For each director, ten minutes of celluloid on the first decade of the SAR. It’s not exactly Paris, jet’aime. Not quite the city that inspires l’amour, Hong Kong. Unsuspecting foreigners who fall in love with it on their first visit and decide to stay all end up hating it, like bad marriages. But of course, it’s a different story for the locals, born into it and therefore compelled to reckon with it, if not, “love” it. So here we are, ten contemporary stories about human entanglements in the fragrant harbor: some are sad, some are happy, some flippant, some serious, some smart, and some...And one that stands filial piety, the ultimate Chinese value, squarely on its head.
