After Moroi graduates from an elite university, he excitedly plunges into his new job at a small-town beer brewery…only to find that adult life is not what he expected. His colleagues encourage him to slack off and only appear to be working. His parents begin a domestic battle with Moroi in the middle. And his college girlfriend leaves him because he can’t afford to marry her. Ichikawa crafts a biting social satire out of one man’s suffering in the new Japanese economy, with wonderful performances (especially by Ozu’s standby Ryu Chishu as Moroi’s father). |
